Result: The Mets’ bats went mostly silent on Thursday, as they lost to the Braves by the score of 3-1 at Citi Field.
Need to Know: Bartolo Colon‘s first inning struggles continued, as he gave up an RBI double to Freddie Freeman and a bloop RBI single to Jason Heyward as the Braves took an early 2-0 lead. In the third, the Braves extended their lead to 3-0 on a double play ground out, but the Mets got that run back in the bottom half of the inning when a David Wright RBI single drew them within 3-1. Colon shut the Braves down after his early trouble and pitched into the eighth, but the Mets couldn’t muster much against Braves starter Aaron Harang during his seven innings of work. The Mets threatened in the bottom of the eighth, but Craig Kimbrel was called on and recorded the final out with runners on first and second. Kimbrel then secured the victory for Atlanta in the ninth.
Game Ball: Harang of Atlanta, who kept the Mets off balance during seven innings of one-run ball.
What’s Next: The Mets open a three-game series against the Marlins on Friday night at Citi Field. Zack Wheeler gets the start for the Mets, opposed by Henderson Alvarez for Miami. The game starts at 7:10 p.m. ET.
