When it's noteworthy that a player goes a game without an error, that's sad. He's SUPPOSED TO go many games without an error!

Tejada didn't make an error???? That's absolutely disgraceful Cerrone. Tell your writers too grow up.

Wheeler's line was 4 and 2/3 rds innings, not 4. I get that we can post mistakes as the nature of the blog is realtime- but can someone take a gaze overnight and do a quick edit? Like Warthen's "Ethic Slur". Was humorous headline, then fixed.

You know things are bad when its noteworthy your shortstop didn't make an error.

The Metsblog comment section in a nutshell: "Rabble rabble rabble Tejada rabble rabble Drew rabble rabble."

Drew is a mediocre player, and signing him will accomplish absolutely nothing. They offered him a very reasonable contract for a player of his skill level and he turned it down. Move on.

WOOHOO! Tejada is up to 2 hits and 3 errors for the Spring. SS situation solved!

TC Enough with the "VETS" Wheeler should start opening day. Niese, Mr. overrated is a forth or fifth starter at this point and the Mets act as if he is an Ace.

Reduced to saying Tejada didn't make an error.  Sad.

I would never hope for an injury to anybody but it would be interesting to see what sandy would do if tejada were to go down

Ya know, Tejada will be alright.  And if we sign Drew, Tejada will be our backup SS.  I can live with that.  Stay away from trading for Franklin.

Lots of fun for my son on his first birthday sitting next to the bullpen and enjoying the action.  Thanks to Vic Black and Scott Rice for autographing his first baseball.  Going back to PSL tomorrow.  Let's Go Mets!

Why are people defending Tejada? Best possible scenario is he hits .280 with 1 HR and 35 RBI. He isn't a defensive wiz. lol No matter how he great he improves, he isn't a major league shortstop. If the Mets replace him, you will NEVER heard about Tejada ever again. He will never start anywhere else....period.

Without question, Tejada stunk last year.  But, the two years before that, he hit in the 280's and played a steady SS (better defensively than all of these guys they are supposedly looking at, with Drew the only exception).  Doesn't it make sense to see if last year was the aberration?  If he returned to the form of those other two years, we would be fine at the position and could upgrade other areas if need be.  He's a young kid, who needed his ass kicked last year, which is what was done.  He did what they asked in this off-season.  Fans and management should be looking to help build this kid's confidence.  I'm sure that he can't relax and play with much confidence when he's torn down and told he sucks on a daily basis.  Very few players can excel in that kind of environment.  Hopefully, he builds off of today and has a good remaining spring training.

Zach ... Get used to it ... Ask Matt how many of his gems were blown by no offense ...

Its sad when one of the important foot notes of a mets article is one referring to their supposed starting SS (not making an error) in a spring training game. C'mon mets step up the level of play and expectations for this organization, c'mon Wilpons/sandy etc.... enough losing mentality, can we become a legit baseball organization again, is possibly a sixth losing season in a row ok.

Did you see the lineup they sent out to playvthe marlins tonight? I dont think they planned on scoring runs from the onset. This night was all about showcasing the pitching and Wheeler was sensational again. Allowed a solo homerun and one walk. Sounds like the opening day starter to me!

Can this JOKE of a situation PLEASE end - can this team get Major League players at shortstop and first base?

It's unreal.

The fact you had to mention that Tejada did not make an error like it was an accomplishment shows how bad he has been and how much the Mets need someone else manning SS.

Zach should really pitch the opener

@Erik Daguanno  Drew's value is higher than the Mets offered, but it doesn't necessarily make sense for the Mets to pay him fair market value, as the Mets are not two wins away from a possible playoff berth.

@eric88  Disagree. The ace of this year's staff is Colon and he should get the opening day start.

@bingmets

I don't see anyone with the feeling that I have. So, I'll stick my neck out. I have watched Quintanilla a lot. My feeling...he is a better fielder than Tejada. For a short while (two months?), before he wears down, he actually gets hits. That takes us to June, when we could make another move. Why does nobody ever talk about this kid? AGAIN...NOT SAYING THAT HE IS THE FIX, BUT HE IS A BETTER SS IN THE FIELD THAN RUBY TUESDAY.

Brian Webster
Brian Webster

@bingmets We unfortunately already know what happens when Tejada gets hurt. It mean Q is the Mets starting SS.

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@bingmets Hopefully he would sign Stephen Drew. Or go with Flores...who more than likely will be a liability at a premium defensive position. and Tejada will get hurt, he does every year

@Johnny C  From what I remember ( a short sample at that,) Tejada played a very good 2B. Just saying, you know...

@nthmetsfan My problem with Tejada is he offers absolutely nothing offensively if that average isn't high (and even then, his lack of power and speed makes him a bench player on a good team). And his lack of speed limits his range, which last year was even worse because he wasn't in the best of shape. They can do much better than Tejada, that's for sure.

Erik Daguanno
Erik Daguanno

Don't get me wrong, Tejada is bad, but that doesn't justify overpaying for Drew.
